April 2020 Update

Please keep checking the blog and your e-mails for updates on classes, projects and assignments.

There will be important information on the Toronto tour cancellation and procedures moving forward.

I wish that we could get back to rehearsals as scheduled however things will be different.  I have been working on some great ideas moving forward so stay tuned!  ...pun intended.

Updated Toronto Information

Here is a draft of the Itinerary for our May trip.  Some details are yet to come and everyone will be provided a confirmed itinerary in April.

All Toronto tour participants should be prepared to play all repertoire by our first scheduled rehearsal on April 2nd.  The music allocations are provided in the second link and students should be currently practicing parts. Listening sample are on the sound clips tab.

Upcoming Events

Mark your calendars for the following events.  


  1. Burnaby District Jazz Night Tuesday February 18th 7pm.  MJ Fox Theatre @Burnaby South Secondary 
  2. Burnaby District Band Night Tuesday March 3rd 7pm.  MJ Fox Theatre @Burnaby South Secondary 
  3. VSO Symphonic Encounters Friday March 6th.  Orpheum, Vancouver.  (Leave school at 8:45am back at 2pm, remember to get you field trip forms in by this Friday.  
  4. Choir Festival Wednesday April 15th 12:30pm 

Our district band night was moved due to snow to the 3rd of march.  All forms must be handed in as soon as possible.   Looking forward to some incredible music!

Grade 7 Pizza Night

January 29th at 6pm

Byrne Creek will be hosting 6 elementary school band programs for a fun evening of music and pizza.  Students should arrive at 5:30pm and the program should be completed by 6:45, then pizza!

Winter Concert December 12th

Byrne Creek Community School's Music Department presents!


Winter Concert 2019 

This event will take place in the Atrium of Byrne Creek on December 12th from 6:30pm to 9pm.  Students will arrive at 6pm.  Prizes and Raffle draw! Grade 8 band, intermediate band, senior wind ensemble, junior and senior jazz band and choir!  Students are expected to stay and watch the other students perform.  Students are also assigned cleanup or setup responsibility.  This is one of two big events our music department puts on at the school, come on out and enjoy some amazing musical performances.    

Concert dress: Grade 8 - plain white dress shirt or top, and black bottoms and shoes (tie is optional) All other groups are all black dress clothes.  Plain black, no prints.  
Note: Please remember that participation at this event is required as part of your course curriculum and core competencies, only in an extreme emergency contact Mr. Axford if you are not attending so we can make arrangements to cover your part.

Voices 41 November 26th

The district Choir festival Voices 41 is back again at Burnaby South Secondary this November 26th at 7pm!  Tickets are available for $5 each in advance only.  There will be no tickets available at the door.  Please make sure every student has a signed permission form handed in by Monday November 25th.  Students will need to arrive by 6pm. This concert is a required part the courses performance grade.

Sectional Forms Online!

Attention Choir and Senior Wind Ensemble Students! 
New online sectional forms are up and ready.  Please let me know if you experience any problems!  Everyone should be done 3 before the Winter Concert on December 12th.  Only one form per section please. Do not submit until you have completed all sectionals and the questions are completed accurately.
